SCRA was a founder member of the (International Rangers Federation) IRF on the Banks of Loch Lomond in 1992.

Since then, SCRA has played a significant role in the continued development of the IRF into the organisation it is today and hosted the IRF Congress at Stirling in 2006. SCRA sent representatives to the Congresses in Bolivia in 2009 and Tanzania in 2012. SCRA also raised funds towards helping Rangers from less affluent countries attend these events.

The IRF aims are to provide a forum for rangers from around the world to share their successes and failures in protecting the world's heritage and to promote information and technology transfer from countries in which protected area management enjoys broad public and government support to countries in which protected area management is less well supported.
