Welcome to the Rangers Standards Manual, an on-line tool that provides guidance on the employment and professional development of Rangers. It covers 2 distinct areas:

1. Code of Practice for the employment of Rangers, outlining the Role of the Ranger, professional best practice and the skills and competencies required to do the job.. This section supports the recruitment of Rangers and is divided into 4 parts:

Core roles of the Ranger as described in the National Policy

Professional Best Practice that all Rangers should follow

A Code of Practice for Ranger Managers including the skills and competencies of a Ranger. These are based on National Occupational Standards and are designed to relate to the National Outcomes and the Aims of Rangers as outlined in National Policy

Assessing your service. Not all services will require the same skills and competencies. Services should identify the skills and competencies required to deliver their Service Plan/ Strategy

2. Ranger Professional Development journey that starts with induction training and works towards a Scottish Ranger Award through a programme of Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD). The journey does not stop with the Award. It is intended that Further Management competencies will be put together in future for those who want to advance in their career.
